ONYCHOLYSIS AS A COMPLICATION OF TAXANE-BASED CHEMOTHERAPY WITH CONCOMITANT CRYOTHERAPY IN BREAST CANCER PATIENTS: TWO CASE REPORTS.

Nail changes are a common side effect of taxane chemotherapy, although onycholysis is quite a rare complication the correct management of which is poorly standardized. These case reports provide a description and analysis of onycholysis, a rare but noteworthy complication observed during taxane-based chemotherapy with concomitant cryotherapy in two patients with breast cancer. Despite prophylactic measures, both cases experienced nail complications during Paclitaxel treatment, underlining the complex nature of onycholysis during taxane therapy and highlighting the critical role of nail assessment and infection screening.

SMOKING INCLINED GROUPS ACCORDING TO THE PHENOTYPE OF THE PTC GENE.

The ability to sense phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) bitterness represents a well-known and convenient genetic marker for human populations and biomedical studies. Two basic phenotypes can be dichotomized by PTC sensitivity: PTC-sensitive or "tester" and PTC-insensitive or "non-tester". The majority of the population (approximately 70%) belong to the PTC-sensitive phenotype, while the remaining 30% are PTC-insensitive. The distribution of PTC sensitivities varies by consumption of alcohol, bitter coffee and cigarettes. This study was conducted among randomly selected 90 cigarette smokers living in the Ajara Region of Georgia. Our results indicate that PTC-insensitive phenotypes are correlated with cigarette consumption and should be considered as an important genetic proxy for cigarette use. This marker may prove very useful for identifying adolescents who might benefit from a focused smoking prevention intervention.

[Ultrastructural study of TNT effect on the callus cells and the cells of intact plants of Yucca gloriosa L].

Intracellular distribution of assimilated 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in callus cells, flower buds and leaves of intact Yucca gloriosa L. plants using electron microscope radioautography. The radiotracer was detected in vacuoles, plastids, mitochondrion, endoplasmic reticulum and cytoplasm. It was found that in dedifferentiated callus cells TNT was incorporated in the vacuoles in greater quantities in comparison with the cells of intact plant. Correspondingly the ultrastructural integrity of the dedifferentiated cells is less damaged.

[New method of treatment of oropharyngeal leptotrichosis]. / Novyi metod lecheniia leptotrikhoza rotoglotki.

Thirty six patients with oropharyngeal leptotrichosis were examined and treated. Antistaphylococcal bacteriophage solution was used for their treatment. Tonsillar lacunae were washed with bacteriophage 2-3 times a week, the course of treatment included 6-8 washings. Thirty four patients showed clinical recovery shown as full clearance of the affected sites and elimination of subjective manifestations of leptotrichosis.

Immunocorrection in otorhinolaryngology is primarily local. Stimulating immunomodulators are most widely employed. Introduction of immunocorrection in combined treatment of secondary immunodeficiency in ENT diseases entails conduction of a wide range of immunological tests. Immunocorrectors should be selected strictly on the individual basis.

[Current possibilities of the diagnosis and treatment of rhinosporidiosis of the nose]. / Sovremennye vozmozhnosti diagnostiki i lecheniia rinosporidioza nosa.

A rare case of rhinosporidiosis found in a 12-year old girl is described. A comprehensive clinical picture is presented and a histological verification of the diagnosis is given. The treatment protocol included surgery, cryotherapy and antimycotic drugs which led to complete recovery.

The state of the network of cost-accounting medical facilities, their role and place in the system of medical paid services for the population are described. The work, economic and fiscal activities of Moscow cost-accounting medical facilities are analyzed. Measures aimed at further improvement of medical facilities providing paid services to the population are proposed.

The blood hydrocortisone and corticosterone content and the aldosterone level in the urine were determined for 24 hours in patients with congenital heart disease before and after operative treatment. In patients with symptoms of cardiac insufficiency both glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid activity of the adrenal cortex was marked by deviations from the diurnal physiological rhythm. This is reflected in the continuous activation of the adrenal cortex during 24 hours; activation of mineralocorticoid function in the evening and during the night is a particularly characteristic phenomenon.
